Legislation: The Cardiac Arrest Survival Act
In its 2000 legislative session, Congress passed the Cardiac Arrest Survival Act, extending Good Samaritan laws protecting laypersons from liability associated with good faith use of public AEDs. In addition, all states have passed similar legislation.
In response, many states including New York, Illinois, and Pennsylvania, are mandating AEDs throughout their schools. And legislation is pending in many other locations.
